02.18.11 : Andalé prepping to open at SFO T2
by Dave

A year ago we helped Andalé with their proposal for a retail space at the newly renovated SFO Terminal 2. Well, they landed it and now we’re teaming up for the April opening. The entire development there has a focus on local/sustainable, and no exception is the retail/food environment. So Andalé‘s menu will be featuring meat and produce purveyors strictly from around the Bay Area. Partnering with architecture firm, Architecture and Light, we’re helping make the menuboard and primary ID a little bit greener this time. Here’s a look at the overall space concept: http://www.flysfo.com/web/page/about/T2
07.31.10 : An evening at Heirloom
by Dave
Last night, we went to Heirloom Cafe for the first time. http://www.heirloom-sf.com. It’s a fairly new restaurant here in San Francisco and we were very impressed. The menu is extraordinarily simple, but nothing was missed. We like simple. And this was simple done very well. The food is responsibly sourced with many of our favorite artisanal products on the menu. The ambiance is similar to that of Bar Tartine but the attitude of the place seemed more Delfina-esque. Casual service but very skilled and knowledgable. A rustic elegance it had… and the lighting was dialed. There’s a cheeseburger there and watch out for it. It’ll probably be one of the more exquisite you’ll have.
06.10.10 : TER goes Público
by Dave
One of the more solid burritos in the City, in our opinion, is found at the unusual and slightly uncomfortable parking lot location of 9th and Brannan. We have no clue what the BB&B/Trader Joe’s/Nordstrom Rack shopping center is even called, but dwarfed within it is the quick-serve Público Urban Taqueria and they can seriously throw down. So we hopped on the bikes today and rode over there for a team-building burrito. It was well worth the ride on this gorgeous day here in SF. Público also has going for it a good recycling and compost system along with a claim of sourcing humanely-raised poultry, pork and beef. We have yet to look into the exact meat sources, so perhaps we’ll have to get back to you on that.
Regardless, we’ll give it 4 stars out of 5 on taste, distribution of filling, and apparent cleanliness. If you’re in the area, we suggest you give it a whirl. Though, a better experience will be had if you grab your burrito and hightail it to a more tranquil environment.
06.06.10 : The Engine Room adds an Engine
by TER Site Admin
We just wanted to give a nod to our friends at Jub Jub Interactive for introducing us to the Expression Engine CMS. It’s the cms platform upon which our site is built and we can say first-hand, that the system is easy to use and so far is doing exactly what we hoped for. Beware, folks, there are a lot of cracker jack platforms out there for both ecommerce and content management.
What exactly is Expression Engine? It’s a flexible, content management system with lots of neat features that allows individuals, organizations, and companies easily manage their website. I’m using it right now, as I write this eLog entry. And boy, is it ever fun!

06.02.10 : “Wacky Wednesday” Engine Room Specials
by TER Site Admin
Resulting from the economic downturn, we’ve employed an occasional economic stimulus service that’s issued at random times and solely at our discretion. It entails designing a SURPRISE design piece for one of our clients and then emailing it to them. And if they want it, they can have it; for frrrreeee! We called the last one “Wacky Wednesday Special” and the beneficiary was our wonderful client from M2 French Translations. Congrats, M2! There are some conditions to the wacky special, like: There can be no significant changes. If it’s a printed piece, the client must pay for printing. The Client can’t ask for the freebie, otherwise it ruins the fun. Things like that! The projects are typically very very simple, but they’re one of those projects that clients just dread paying for with so much other stuff going on. So, if you’re nice enough to us and if the stars align just right one day, maybe YOU’ll end up on the receiving end of a Wacky Wednesday or Freaky Friday Special from The Engine Room.
